After an hour of driving on dirt roads with stray cows grazing, we arrived in the small town of Catumbi. We were greeted with the yells of over 80 small children in grades kindergarten through 7th who were so excited to see the “gringos”. We enter the small school looking for the teachers to find that there is only one man teaching over 80 kids. Quickly, Mom pulls out the packaged water color paint and organizes the kids before any of us could gather our wits. Fast forward 30 minutes and all the kids have painted their flowers, seahorses, or butterflies and have found a new fascination; my camera. Fast forward 200 pictures and a whole bunch of selfies and I’ve made lots of new 6 year old best friends. Although we only had a couple hours with these kids, I can’t wait to see them next week with our next activity. Stay tuned.
